Looking Over The Limb

Looking Over The Limb

The Earth straddling the limb of the Moon, as seen from above Compton crater. Center of the Earth in this view is 4.04°N, 12.44°W, just off the coast of Liberia. The large tan area in the upper right is the Sahara desert, and just beyond is Saudia Arabia. The Atlantic and Pacific coasts of South America are visible to the left. NASA image captured by the camera onboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter from its orbit around the moon. See the snap text and source link for more information.

Steampunk Black Beards Coat (wip)

Steampunk Black Beards Coat (wip)

Found an old leather jacket to use as Black Beards coat for my steampunk project. I had to sew gold skull and crossbones buttons on it because there were no buttons on it at all. I still want to add gold embellishments to the collar, gold dogear cuffs to the sleeves, and have someone spray paint Black Beards flag on the back. I still have to finish the mask, resew the sash with gold trim, and a heck of a lot of other tweaks. Pants, hat, and boots will have to be worked on also.

Soviet soldiers feeding polar bears from a tank in 1950

Soviet soldiers feeding polar bears from a tank in 1950

The soldiers would feed the polar bears with condensed milk tins. People would open such a tin with a tin-opener and then gave the can to the bear who licked all the milk from tin and then feed her little bears with it. Those blue and white tins of condensed milk were the winter dessert staple of every Soviet kid. The condensed milk (called in Russian: sgushchennoye moloko) had indeterminately long shelf life and there was always plenty of it. It was a common dessert in the army too.

Spotted off our back deck yesterday, we think it is living around our woodshed. It gets awarded the new critter of the year at my house. (image not ours)

Laser Cut Steampunk Black Beard Mask (wip)

Laser Cut Steampunk Black Beard Mask (wip)

I am currently working on a Steampunk Black Beard mask and costume for next years steampunk festivals, TLAP parties, and Halloween. After this mask is done I will be making a Calico Jack mask and a Mary Reed mask for the other members of our crew. Then the custom costumes for all of us and of course the dog. We take our pirating very seriously!
