Lightning over Colorado

Lightning over Colorado

Have you ever watched a lightning storm in awe? Join the crowd. Oddly, nobody knows exactly how lightning is produced. What is known is that charges slowly separate in some clouds causing rapid electrical discharges (lightning), but how electrical charges get separated in clouds remains a topic of much research. Lightning usually takes a jagged course, rapidly heating a thin column of air to about three times the surface temperature of the Sun. The resulting shock wave starts supersonically and decays into the loud sound known as thunder.

Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland.

Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland.

I was really never so close to a glacier. The only time I've seen a glacier before, was in Norway a few months ago, but only from the distance. This time, I could stand right next to it. It was absolutely breathtaking and incredible. This place was weirdly quiet. But every now and then, the ice cracked and big chunks of ice broke off and fell into the glacier lagoon. I will never forget this sound in my head. It is so unique, as nothing else I've ever heard in my life. Another thing I loved about Hvannadalshnúkur, is the contrast of the green mountains, the blue white glacier and the brown water. So many natural contrasts in one place.

Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax fixing a truck

The tensions and worries of winning a tight game are forgotten as these two baseball pitching stars of the Los Angeles Dodgers concentrate on keeping the motors of a U.S. Army truck in good working condition for an inspection. Wearing Army fatigues, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax team up to change parts of a 2 1/2-ton truck at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Van Nuys, California, during their two weeks of active duty for training. Drysdale won 25 games and lost nine the past season, while Koufax won 4 and lost seven when injury in mid-season forced him out of the competition. Photo dated: March 20, 1966.

Old UFO Charts Showing Commonly Reported UFOs

Old UFO Charts Showing Commonly Reported UFOs

These old charts show some of the more commonly reported UFOs of the past. While many shapes such as the classic saucer, bullet and cigar still persist today, one could conclude that UFOs have changed and evolved right along with us. Today black triangles (possibly TR-3B), orange orbs and other shapes dominate our skies.
