Perdita Rose

Perdita Rose

Perdita is a David Austin rose, and one of the first I planted in my garden, some ten years ago. The buds are pinkish, and the flowers open as a blush color and then grow whiter as they mature. It doesn't grow as large as my other roses, but I have it at the end of the row, where it is not overshadowed by its more raucous cousins.

Afghanistan's carpet makers have long made "war rugs." What's the latest? Drone rugs.

Afghanistan's carpet makers have long made "war rugs." What's the latest? Drone rugs.

The war rug tradition of Afghanistan has its origins in the decade of Soviet occupation of Afghanistan from 1979, and has continued through subsequent military, political and social conflicts. Afghan rug-makers began incorporating the apparatus of war into their designs almost immediately after the Soviet Union invaded their country. They continue to do so today in the wake of the United States' 2001 invasion of Afghanistan which ousted the Taliban government of Mullah Omar but has failed to bring an end to violence in the country. Pirate Satchel! Definitely not a purse!

I needed one of these for awhile to hold my belongings when I am out and about. So I DIY'ed one. I left the front flap undone to make it look more rustic/tough/piratical (I don't know), but it looks pretty decent. Took me about a month on and off to get it done. No it is not a Pirate Purse it is a SATCHEL DAMN'IT!!!!!

Eruption on Io

Eruption on Io

An active volcanic eruption on Jupiter's moon Io was captured in this false color image taken on February 22, 2000 by NASA's Galileo spacecraft. White and orange areas on the left side of the picture show newly erupted hot lava. The two small bright spots are sites where molten rock is exposed to the surface at the toes of lava flows. The larger orange and yellow ribbon is a cooling lava flow that is more than more than 60 kilometers (37 miles) long.
